About the author

Jackie now supports & trains everyone on the water: https://linktr.ee/SisterShipTraining
Jackie returned to Australia after exploring the French canals on a Dutch barge with her Australian husband.
Originally from the UK, Jackie is now an adopted Australian. She grew up with horses in the UK until her world was shattered with a heartbreaking bereavement. Disillusioned with life, she ran away to Australia and met and married Noel (within just a few months!). They decided to buy a boat and set sail. So within her first year living in a foreign land, she was getting used to a foreign husband and a foreign life on board!
Mariah II took Jackie & Noel around the world. Pyewacket II (purchased in San Francisco) took them across the Pacific Ocean for a second time on a more southerly route. Adventures include The Great Loop in the USA plus Canada’s Great Lakes and the French Canals.
Between boats they adopted 5 standardbred horses and set off into the Australian bush with just the horses and their gear on their backs... "an extraordinary experience."
Their last boat was a motorboat - a long story (well a short one really) but keep following to see what new plans they have!
Jackie & Noel spent three years on a 1920s Dutch Bunker barge, which they completely renovated while exploring France and Belgium.
As a commercial captain Jackie has worked internationally, and has been a Marine Rescue skipper. She has also taught commercial maritime. She co-wrote a pilot book (in America) and several hundred magazine articles worldwide. Cruisers' AA (accumulated acumen) was Jackie (and Noel's) first self-published book. She now runs her own training company for recreational and commercial boaters, called SisterShip Training.
New Street Communications Publishers has picked up most of Jackie's books and released audio versions.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2015Even though it’s been a few years since I’ve sailed Lake Michigan (out of Chicago), my experience not unlike a pea to a rather large watermelon when compared to Jackie and Noel Parry’s extensive ocean voyaging, I found this book a refreshing treat. Whether sailing a sixteen foot pocket-cruiser or a sixty foot yacht, there is enough information in this book to grab attention. The sections on fire safety, anchoring, onboard equipment, storage, navigation, life lines, vests…and even cleaning (I’ll never look at coffee filters as just-for-breakfast anymore) were well worth the read. And what tied it all together, for me, were the “Short Stories” interspaced throughout, all based on the Parry’s’ personal experience. This is a well-written book, more so a reference guide, I would have placed on our boat’s bookshelf, next to Chapman. Good reading for those sailing, or have sailed, or who have ever dreamed of trimming a fluttering main…and the freedom of the water.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2017I recommend this book to anyone who desires to sail. It's very informative and easy to understand. Filled with so many tips most books never cover. We refer to it all the time. It's for a modern sailer yet keeps important traditions. Jackie and Noel both provide their wisdom and I appreciate the time it took and their willingness to share their experiences.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2015An interesting and detailed how-to guide to sailboat cruising. Unless your'e a cruiser, wanna be a cruiser (me) or just interested in the topic, it's probably not for you... but if you are, the author lists and/or discusses everything you can imagine about sailboat cruising with some great resources in a clear and concise manner. It includes some experiences from her book "Of Foreign Build" about her own circumnavigation cruise thrown in to illustrate points.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2016This book is a great, interesting and informative read. Very educational and essential to any boat owner, especially if you plan to ever leave the dock. As a sailor of over 40 years I learned quite a bit. There is so many interesting topics covered and done in a very entertaining way. Can't wait for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two great reads by a gifted author - and a sailor
If you read two sailing books this year. They should be by Jackie Parry. I'm not pleased. I haven't slept more than 6 hours in two days. And for that I am grateful to these amazing people. Loved both books. Informative, funny, intelligent writing by a talented lady. If you love sailing you will love Noel and Jackie. If you love people then even more so

5.0 out of 5 stars Arm chair circumnavigator
Found this book fascinating, have read many circumnavigation books. This this one has shown me more ins and outs of planning a cruise, and just as interesting as the cruise itself.
